More than three-quarters (77%) of employers are having challenges with employee engagement. In fact, 34% have seen a drop in productivity as a result. The connection between engagement and productivity has long been recognized, but the opposite is also true: disengagement leads to a drop in productivity. A recent national survey of 169 employers by Challenger, Gray & Christmas highlights this connection.
Here are some key details from the survey:
- 34% have seen a drop in productivity
- 24% are having some engagement issues without any impact
- 23% are investing in programs and benefits to engage workers
- 23% are successfully keeping their workforce engaged
The survey also revealed what workers want the most, from the perspective of HR professionals:
- Flexibility
- Hybrid and remote work options
- Empathetic leadership
- Upward career trajectory
- Meaningful / purposeful work
- Higher pay
- Leadership development
- Mental health and burnout care
- Diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
- Bonuses
While 80% of employers are having trouble filling open positions, here are the top 5 benefits being offered:
- Hybrid work arrangements
